News from the Minutes of Recent Meetings

Smethwick VC Medal
Lieutenant Herbert James's medals, including the Victoria Cross and the Military Cross, were recently sold at auction for £211,725 to a private collector.

Galton Bridge
A sign giving directions and brief details of the Galton Bridge has now been erected on Oldbury Road.

Warley Woods Community Trust
The Society has donated £400 to the Trust for the planting of trees.  A cheque was handed to Steve Cemm at the Society's picnic in August..

Archaeology
Sandwell MBC is to bid for Heritage Lottery funding for the preservation and cataloguing of archaeological finds.

Soho Foundry
A specialist contractor is now preparing the site ahead of work to weather-prrof the buildings.  The Pattern Stores will be taken down to ground level and the bricks will be stored.

West Smethwick Park Lodge
The lodge, built in 1924 on Victoria Road, is to be demolished.  It has been rejected for statutory listing and is derelict.

Technical School Building
The building is due to be vacated by Sandwell College when their new campus is built in West Bromwich.  Information and local contact details have been provided to a steering group supporting young people in performing arts who are seeking new accommodation.

Chance Records
Sandwell Community History & Archives will be taking the first two deliveries of the Chance archives from Pilkington's in the coming weeks to the second stage of its bid for cataloguing funding.
